Default I'm new... and I'm lost.

I just bought Nightfalls today, and I am lost.. beyond belief :P

So I have a few questions that I hope some of you guys can answer:

- Whats the difference between RP mode and PvP mode?
- Which mode is more popular?
- Which class is most effective in PvP/PvE?
- Which class is easiest/hardest to play?
- Which class is funnest/most boring to play?
- Where can I find some basic newbie guides regarding noobish things around here?
- When can you choose your second proffession?
- Is it better to level alone or in a party?
- Nightfalls or Prophecies?
- Can someone describe the two new classes in Nightfalls for me, because all I get about them is that they are holy warriors that are ... new.
- Devrish or Paragon?
- What do you know now, that you wish you knew back when you were a noob?
- How long is this learning curve gonna take?
- When does it get addicting/fun?
- Whats the best thing to do as a noob?

Thats about it. I'm honestly sorry if some of these questions seem outright stupid or just random.. heh I've been awake all day since 5:30 AM (Had the SAT's today) and this day's been hectic so also excuse any spelling/grammar errors that you see.

Take care, and thanks for your much appreciated help

Honestly...play-the-game....not that your questions aren't valid, but some of us old-timers just jumped in. It won't take long to learn whats going on, and there are plenty of people in-game willing to help the noobish. Most of your questions will result in answers that are opinions formed by other players....how did they form their opinions? by playing the game. If you want real informational answers, go here: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page
think of it as the GW bible.

by the way...Welcome to GW!

Yeah, usually it is better to learn from your own experiences than those of others, not to say that other peoples info isn't useful...

- Whats the difference between RP mode and PvP mode?
RP = Roleplaying, you start off as a level one and follow the storyline and engage in the PvE (versus npcs) side of the game. PvP = Competitive combat with other humans in a variety of settings and modes - don't bother with this until you have learned more through playing the game

- Which mode is more popular?
Most people play PvE (RP), or at least start with that, only in higher-end PvP do things get interesting...

- Which class is most effective in PvP/PvE?
Anet has a large supply of nerfbats lying around and this tends to change quite often. I won't go into the whole metagame. It is better to try a bit of everything and see what you like most, then play that. Guild Wars isn't about solo effort, but your effort as a team, and all classes can play an important role in a team.

- Which class is easiest/hardest to play?
It is best to start with a Warrior, these are the easiest to set up a simple build on, however you control how hard a class is to play by decided how complex and intricate you want to be with your skills and skill use.

- Which class is funnest/most boring to play?
All down to personal preference. Personally Dervish and Ranger.

- Where can I find some basic newbie guides regarding noobish things around here?
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Getting...28Nightfall%29
And these forums, among others.

- When can you choose your second proffession?

- Is it better to level alone or in a party?
More xp per monster is found alone, but guild wars is best experienced in a party with other players, most of the time. However if you cannot find a good group, your heroes are more than adequate if you sort them out properly.

- Nightfalls or Prophecies?
Both, and Factions too. However it is better to start you Guild Wars experience in Tyria (Prophecies) as you are given a slower, more informative introduction and can build up a good range of skills at a low cost, the other campaigns throw you in at the deep end soon after starting, but you can travel between campaigns on your characters.

- Can someone describe the two new classes in Nightfalls for me, because all I get about them is that they are holy warriors that are ... new.
Dervishes are sort of like warriors - They are a melee class who use scythes to attack their target + up to 2 adjacent enemies, they wear robes and rely on various enchantments to keep themselves alive. They can also take the form of gods temporarily using avatar skills. Paragons are like rangers, crossed with warriors. They are a ranger class who use thrown spears and are often found between the front and backlines. They are primarily a support class, the leader of the party if you wish. They use shouts, chants and echoes to keep powerful buffs on nearby party members and themselves.

- Devrish or Paragon?
Not recommended for newbs. Personally I prefer Dervishes.

- What do you know now, that you wish you knew back when you were a noob?
The importance of having friends and/or a guild to fall back on. Ele's aren't the best class to start with. The importance of collectors.

- How long is this learning curve gonna take?
TBH it is a never ending curve, people are constantly having to adapt to new situations and change their builds often to keep variety. However your learning curve very much depends on the help of others, you should be pug material in less than a week =P.

- When does it get addicting/fun?
Straight away in Prophs, not sure about Nightfall but I'd imagine pretty early on.

- Whats the best thing to do as a noob?
Mess around, and play the campaign, while doing side-quests.

PvP is Player vesres Player, PvE is the story-line part of the game where you fight AI enemies. They're both pretty popular.

There is no "most effective" profession. The thing to do is try different ones and see which ones you enjoy playing. You'll be better at the ones you like to play.

The easiest to play probably Warrior. Most people would say that Mesmer is the toughest, since it requires knowing a lot about what the other professions do to effectively combat them. Which is more fun is a matter of opinion. If you like making lots of noise and flashy effects, then Elementalist would be the way to go. If you like going toe-to-toe wiht your foes, Warrior or Dervish. Try different ones to see what suits YOUR playing style.

You'll be able to get your secondary profession once you reach level 5. For tons of good info on all things GW, check out http://guildwiki.org
It's better to party up, even if it's only with heros and henchmen, you won't get as much XP per kill, but you won't get your butt handed to you every time you set foot out of town. (Be sure to talk to the sunspear scouts by the rez shrines for bounties & double XP.)

Dervish is a front line damage dealer, Paragons are more of a support class.

There's lots of things to learn; collectors, skills, traders, team composition, and skill sets. But it won't take long to get the hang of the game mechanics, get over the initial "What the hell am I doing?" phase, and get leveled up to 20, where the real challenge of the game begins.

The best thing to do as a new player is learn the difference between "noob" and "newbie." Seriously, while in-game, talk to every NPC you see to find out what services & products they have to offer. Also check out guildwiki, you'll find stuff about scams, armors, professions, and all kinds of neat things.
